If you’re in the process of planning your wedding, one of the first things you’ll be looking to book is your venue.
If you are working with a wedding planner, the chances are they will already know many of the answers to the following questions, but if you aren’t, here are some really important questions to ask before booking your venue:
- Is Catering Included?
It is worth finding out early on if a venue has an in-house catering team or whether you need to hire an external caterer, and if so, are there any restrictions. Some venues have set suppliers that they work with, so it’s worth finding this out before you make any firm bookings.
- Do you have accommodation?
Especially important if it’s in a remote location, check whether they have rooms on site. Otherwise you’ll also need to make sure that you and your guests have a way of getting back to their accommodation at the end of the night.
- Do you have any special offers?
Mid-week discounts are available at some venues, and with a destination wedding, it really doesn’t need to be on a weekend anyway, so it’s always worth asking if they have any special offers or discounts.
- Are there any restrictions?
Wherever you are getting married, it’s always worth checking if there are any restrictions on things such as fireworks or live music. You don’t want to find out after you’ve already booked that you can’t have music after midnight if you’re dream is to party through the night with a live band and a DJ.
- Are you licensed for weddings
If you are planning on having a legal ceremony, check whether this is actually going to be possible at your preferred venue. If it’s not, you’ll need to decide if you want to find another venue that can hold your ceremony, or have the ceremony elsewhere and return to your dream venue afterwards.
- What about venue decorations?
Does the venue provide any decorations and how are they charged? If you’re providing your own decorations, it’s also good to find out how soon before the wedding you can have access to the venue to decorate it and when you need to collect everything after the wedding day. Some venues may let you decorate the day before, others will only let you have access on the day. Some even may offer to do the decoration for you as long as you let them know how you want everything set up.
- Can we bring our own wine/drinks?
One great way to not only save money, but also to add even more of a personal touch to your wedding day is to be able to supply your own drinks. Some venues allow you to bring your own, but check to see if there are any restrictions. In some cases, they may allow you to supply your own table wine but will require that all other drinks are purchased via them.
