No matter how “on it” you are with wedding planning, even the most chilled out couples will get the odd week here or there where wedding planning stress creeps up on you and everything feels overwhelming.
Whilst this feeling is completely normal, there are a few things you can do to help you feel a bit more relaxed and in control of everything. So here are my top tips (tried and tested) to help relieve those stressful feelings:
Step Away & Do Something Active
Going for a walk, doing some yoga or going for a swim are fantastic ways to channel that nervous energy and get those happy hormones flowing. It also means that you’re forcing yourself to step away from your computer or those dreaded table plans and can come back to it later feeling refreshed.
Delegate or Outsource
You’ve hired a cake designer, a florist, a wedding planner and told them how you envision your day. Make yourself let go and trust them to get on with their jobs without trying to micro-manage. If you’ve still got a lot of things on your plate, have a look and see if it’s something you can delegate to someone you trust.
Start a journal and write in it every night all of oyur thoughts and feelings. It doesn’t need to be just for wedding planning. Sometimes it’s when we feel like we are juggling a hundred things at once that we feel like everything is getting on top of us. Do an end of day “brain dump” on the pages. There’s no right or wrong way to do it. Just explore how you are feeling and write it all down so it’s not swimming around in your head before you go to sleep.
Eat healthily. Crash diets or stress-related binge eating are both likely to affect your mood. Instead, try to plan healthy meals and keep hydrated by drinking lots of water or calming teas such as camomile.
Social Media Detox
If you find yourself on constant social media scroll mode, looking at anything and everything wedding related, perhaps it’s time to step away. Perhaps just for 24 hours or even longer if you’re feeling strong. Sometimes detoxing your mind from a world of useless information and over-inspiration is enough to get you thinking clearly again.
