Where are you based?
I’m based in Innsbruck, Austria but I’m happy to travel wherever you need me to. I have three international airports within two hours from home, and I live close to the borders of Germany, Italy and Swizerland, so I can travel just about anywhere in the world. I’ve shot weddings across Austria, in the UK and also in Italy, but I’d love to travel even more, so wherever you’re getting married, I’d love to be there.
What is your shooting style?
I like to shoot almost exclusively with natural light and often with wider apertures and I like to try to get creative whenever I can. I approach weddings in a documentary style; I aim to work unobtrusively in the background to capture what is happening around me. Of course for your portraits and for group shots, I will give some directions, but I prefer to let as much unfold naturally in front of me as possible. I like shooting in outdoor locations, and most couples I work with are happy to walk a bit off the beaten path to get some great photos. In situations where natural light is limited, I may use flash to capture the action, but please be aware that this will have a different look to my normal style of shooting.
What is an engagement session?
An engagement session is a short 1-1.5 hour photo shoot where we can get to know each other and have a bit of fun before the wedding day. For many people, the only photos we have of ourselves are taken on our trusty mobile phones. The engagement shoot can take place anything from a year in advance, to a few weeks before the wedding, and lets you get the feeling of what it will be like when we do your portraits on the wedding day. And at the end of it you’ll have 15-20 images of yourselves looking fabulous to post to Facebook, share with your friends and family, have framed at home or use for your save the date cards.
What is an online gallery?
An online gallery is where all of your edited photos are uploaded to once they are finished. This gallery is password protected. You can share the link with all of your family and friends, and you can all download and share your favourite images. You can also order prints from a professional lab straight from the gallery. One thing to bear in mind is that every screen with display the images slightly differently unless it has been properly calibrated. Images may look brighter on one screen than another, and skin tones may vary slightly. You can see a sample gallery here.
But I have read that you hold the copyright for the images? Does that mean I cannot share them on facebook or print them out?
International copyright law means that the photographer is the copyright holder for their images. As part of your package you have paid for the rights for private use of the images. This means you can share and print you photos as much as you like. I do recommend using a professional printing service to ensure that the colours are correctly printed, and I even offer this via the online gallery. The last thing you want is for your skin to turn a rather unhealthy shade of orange due to bad cheap printers. If you do upload any to Facebook or other social media, I’d be super grateful if you could tag me as “Wild Connections Photography”. Please note that it is against copyright law to alter the images in any way, such as cropping or using Instagram filters.
You have said that our photos will be edited? Does this mean you can photoshop me to look thinner/taller…?
I’m afraid not. All photos that are selected for the online gallery/USB stick with be post processed to show the photo in its best form. This includes colour correction and optimising brightness and contrast. I do not use photoshop to alter my images. I believe that there is nothing more beautiful than two people in love and I am there to capture the day as it happens, and capture things just as they were. Of course if you woke up with a big blemish on your chin, I will take that out for you. 🙂
How soon after the wedding will we see our photographs?
The full wedding gallery will take 3-4 weeks to edit. But I don’t want you to have to wait that long before you see any pictures. A few days after the wedding I’ll post a sneak peek on Facebook and blog a small selection of photos around 2 weeks after the wedding.
On the wedding day, can friends and family take photos too?
Of course they can. All I ask is that they refrain from using flash photography, especially during the ceremony and try to be mindful of my shots. It breaks my heart when I have a beautiful shot of the first kiss that is ruined by Uncle Bob in the background with his DSLR or a lovely shot down the aisle that is complete with people with 5 iPhones leaning out of the pews.
Do you work alone or do you have a second shooter?
I usually work alone, but I can bring a second shooter if you would like. Having a second shooter means that we can capture everything from different perspectives and for the getting ready we can split up to cover both bride and groom preparation. Please ask me for a quote if you would like to have a second shooter.
Ok, so we want to book you. What happens next?
Firstly, send me an email telling me all about your amazing wedding plans. To fix the wedding date, I require a 50% deposit to hold the date. The final payment is due 14 days before the wedding. You’ll also got a contract to sign. Leading up to the wedding I’ll send you a questionnaire asking for you about the running order of the day, a group photos list and to let me know if you have any specific “must have” photos.
My contract is based on the general business terms for professional photographers in Austria. You can find the details here (German only).
