Planning Your Wedding Day Timeline

There’s a common misconception in the wedding industry that if you’re having a smaller, intimate wedding day or elopement, that you’ll only need a couple of hours of photography.

On a traditional wedding day it’s normal to have a photographer capture the whole day, so why wouldn’t you want the same for your elopement day? Your elopement day matters just as much.

In fact, I think it matters MORE.

You won’t have 100 guests taking pictures on their phones.

When you get home from your adventure, you’ll want to be able to look at the pictures from your adventure and relive EVERY MOMENT.

Picture This…

It’s the morning of your wedding day. As one of you is getting ready, the other is hidden away in a quiet corner writing out their wedding vows.

Perhaps you help each other get ready.
Or maybe you each have a room in your Airbnb and you get ready separately.

Then it’s time for you to see each other in your wedding clothes for the first time.

This is it! It’s really happening!

Now it’s time to head off on your adventure. We drive, maybe take a cable car or hike to a stunning location.

You see a spot that takes your breath away and decide that it would be the perfect moment to say your vows to one another.

You make your promises to each other with nature as your witness, exchange rings & a first kiss and pop some champagne to celebrate!

The rest of your day is spent exploring this stunning location you’ve travelled so far to see. You can’t believe how beautiful it is and you just can’t help but stop, cuddle up together and just take it all in.

Exhausted, but so full of love, you head back to town to have an intimate candle-lit dinner in a local restaurant serving the best traditional food from the region.

Some things my couples choose to do on their wedding day:
* Have a picnic somewhere with a stunning view
* Watch the sunset behind the mountains
* Hit the ski slopes
* Climb a via ferrata
* Spend the night in a mountain hut
* Have an ice sculpting workshop with their families
* Hike to a mountain summit
* Drive over a mountain pass

What would your best day ever look like?

Your wedding day is NOT a full day photoshoot.

It’s YOU having the best day of your lives.

It’s having every moment captured in a natural, unobtrusive way that allows you to have the experience you want without having to feel like you are posing for photos.

It’s having someone who cares deeply about you having the BEST DAY EVER and capturing every minute of it.

About Cat

Cat Ekkelboom-White

I’m Cat, the woman behind Wild Connections Photography.

Born in the UK, my love of the mountains led me to Austria where I now live with my husband Menno. I’m a former ski & snowboard instructor and general mountain addict, spending most of my free time out in the mountains with her husband in search of the wildest and most beautiful locations. On rainy days you’ll find me in the climbing gym or at home with Menno and our 2 naughty house rabbits Fozzy & Bella.

I’m a multi-award-winning photographer and an industry leader in the European adventure wedding scene. I’m an adventure wedding & elopement specialist, and in 2019 I was named a Fujifilm X-Photographer for my unique approach to wedding photography. My work has won recognition from top industry blogs Junebug Weddings, and has been featured in publications such as HuffPost, The Knot, Magnolia Rouge, Mountainside Bride & Looks Like Film.

I’m also the editor of the European adventure wedding blog We Are The Wanderers and founder of the Adventure Wedding Academy for wedding photographers.

Let's Do This!

I’m so excited that you want to share your adventure with me. It’s going to be epic!

Reserve Your Date

To reserve your date, you’ll get a contract to sign and an invoice for a 50% prepayment. If you don’t know how many hours you’ll need, I recommend booking the base package & upgrading to more hours at a later date once we have a clearer vision of the flow of your day.

Need Help Finding A Location & Other Vendors?

After a “getting-to-know you” questionnaire, I’ll create a bespoke location list for you based on your vision for your dream day. I’m also happy to send you recommendations for other vendors such as celebrants, videographers, hair and makeup, etc.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you based?

Travel has been a huge part of my life and even now I have a fixed home in Innsbruck in Austria, I still love to travel as much as I can. I have three international airports within two hours from home, so it’s pretty easy for me to get anywhere in the world. I regularly travel all around Europe for weddings & elopements.

* The above rates include travel to any destination within Europe that can be reached by a commercial airline and a standard 2-wheel drive car, and cover my accommodation for 2 nights in a mid-range hotel in the area where the wedding is. If the location chosen does not match these criteria, the additional travel expenses are to be covered by the couple.

What is your shooting style?

I try to shoot everything as true to life as possible and create a gallery that is a true representation of your day. If it’s bright and sunny on your wedding day, your pictures will be brighter than if it was dark and cloudy. I work primarily in a documentary style, which means I try to let as much unfold in front of me as possible. In other words, I’m there to capture your day as it happens. I’ll only give you some direction if it means placing you in better light or if something doesn’t quite work for the camera. My priority on a wedding day will always be to give you space to have the experience and the adventure that you want to have without you feeling like you have to stop to pose for photos every few minutes.

How Many Images Will We Get?

Great question! And the answer is: it depends. The number of images in your final gallery depends a lot on the timings of your day as well as the number of people attending. I don’t have a set number of images I deliver. But if you really need me to give you a number, you can expect an average of around 50 images per hour of coverage.

When do we get to see our pictures?

You’ll get a small preview of your pictures around 1 week after your wedding day and the full edited gallery delivered to your inbox no later 60 days from your wedding date.

You have said that our photos will be edited? What does this mean?

All photos that are selected for the final gallery with be post-processed to show them in their best form. This includes colour correction, optimising brightness and contrast in line with the style of images you see in my portfolio. I do not use photoshop to alter images. I believe that there is nothing more beautiful than two people in love. I am there to capture your day as it happens, in an honest and real way. Of course, if you woke up with a red spot on your chin, I will take that out for you. I don’t give out unedited images. So much of the magic that makes up an image happens in the digital equivalent of the darkroom (known as Lightroom) and it’s also how I will create images that match my signature style. It’s boring but I have a legal obligation to deliver a final gallery that is representative of the work you see on my website (and unedited images look rubbish!).

What is an online gallery?

An online gallery is where all of your edited photos are uploaded once they are finished. This gallery is online for 1 year after your wedding date. You can share the gallery link with all of your family and friends, download and share your favourite images to social media. You can also order prints and beautiful handmade albums from a professional lab straight from the gallery.
