Backyard Wedding in Tirol – Susanne & Georg

Wedding Planning

When Susanne contacted me about the wedding day, she told me that it would be a low-key affair with a short civil ceremony and a reception back in their village, close to their family home, which was a very special place for both her and Georg. But due to the open day from the local fire brigade which was happening on the same day, the village hall had already been booked, and they were forced to reconsider their plans and decided to have a small backyard wedding with just family at their home, which also happened to be a beautiful old farmhouse and barn steeped in local history.

But whilst you can describe the wedding as small in terms of the number of people who were there, the incredible amount of love that I was absolutely blessed to witness on this day, well there was nothing small about it.

Everything about Susanne & Georg’s day was absolutely perfect.

From the moment they set eyes on each other outside the town hall, their faces were beaming with joy. As was everyone’s around them, and also any passer-by who caught sight of them. Their love was contagious.

They then proceeded to make my job ridiculously hard. As their civil ceremony began, the tears started flowing from every direction in the room. Including mine. Witnessing two beautiful people whose only care in the world on that one day was to become married to one another is an honour.

A Backyard Wedding Celebration

After the ceremony, we headed across to Susanne’s home where we celebrated with drinks in their old barn. And as we stole some time alone together to get some portraits around their home, a local fire truck sped past, reminding them of the larger wedding that they could have had, but that they no longer wanted.

As I left everyone to continue their celebrations at a local restaurant, I couldn’t help but think about how so many couples end up getting sucked into the world of wedding planning and are told by the wedding industry about all the things that they *need to have* for the perfect wedding.

Susanne & Georg reminded me that fancy floral decorations and personalised favours are just things that distract you from why you are celebrating in the first place. The perfect wedding is about celebrating the love between two souls and their families in a way that is meaningful to them.

It’s all about love. Pure and simple.
