Once month ago today Chelsea and Matt travelled across the globe for a rather special event. So today I’m excited to share with you their Chateau de Mons destination wedding in France.
Chateau de Mons Destination Wedding In France
Chelsea and Matt met 10 years ago while they were both studying at Arizona State University. From early on in the wedding planning process they knew that they wanted to get married abroad, and since they had friends in the south of France, that seemed like a good place to start looking. It was their dream to find a beautiful venue that oozed French charm, and during a location scouting trip in July 2017, they came across Chateau de Mons in the Gers region of southern France.
Most of their friends and family travelled from the USA to celebrate with them, so Chelsea and Matt planned a whole weekend of French-inspired fun for their guests. The wedding weekend kicked off with a Pétanque tournament welcome dinner in the historic town of Condom. Things got pretty competitive but the tournament had to end before the winners were declared as dinner back at the cottage was ready to be served. Not wanting to end the night without crowing a Pétanque champion, the final match was held in the car park area of the cottage lit only by car headlights. I’m not entirely sure who ended up being crowned champions but it certainly felt like a great way to end the evening.
The next morning I walked down a little farm track from my bed and breakfast past lush green vineyards, to Chateau de Mons. So many of their friends and family turned up to help transform the chateau for the day, while Chelsea and Matt were getting ready with their bridesmaids and groomsmen. Chelsea and Matt were the most chilled out couple, surrounded by their tribes of awesome bridesmaids and groomsmen, and their relaxed nature made their whole wedding day so chilled out and fun. Everyone got nice and cosy in the chateau’s small but beautiful old chapel for the ceremony, where Chelsea and Matt said their vows, exchanged rings and literally tied the knot! Afterwards everyone got down to celebrating, but not before covering the couple in a very french alternative to confetti – French lavender – which smelled absolutely amazing!
Chelsea wanted to honour one very special wedding guest on her wedding day, so after dinner she took her grandmother back up to her room for a little surprise. Chelsea had made a skirt from her Gram’s wedding dress and wore it for the rest of the night!
The next morning…
