Dates To Avoid For Your Ski Wedding In Austria

It might seem like winter is well and truly over but for the couples planning their winter weddings, things are in full swing. If you’re planning a ski wedding in Austria, and you still haven’t set a date, there are some dates to avoid for your ski wedding in Austria.

Dates To Avoid For Your Ski Wedding In Austria

Most ski resorts in Austria will open around Christmas and usually stay open until Easter (depending on where it falls). If you’re planning on getting married in a ski resort in Austria, there are some key dates that you might want to avoid:

When ski resorts open in December has been rather changeable in the last few years due to the unpredictability of the weather. Most resorts aim to open in mid-December but in previous years some lower resorts have been forced to push-back their opening weekends until the Christmas week. And whilst a white Christmas is becoming an increasingly rare occurrence across the Alps, the Christmas holidays are still one of the busiest periods in most ski resorts, simply because of the school holidays across Europe.

Whilst you might be inclined to think that the UK half-term week in February might also be a week to avoid, this isn’t always the case. The busiest weeks to avoid during the ski season are the weeks that coincide with Fasching (Carnival). This period before Lent coincides with Austrian, Swiss, German, Dutch & Belgian holidays (though rarely the UK holidays) and is always incredibly busy across Austrian ski resorts. If you’re unsure when the carnival period is just search for Fasching 2019/2020… for example.

Other Dates To Consider:

Some ski resorts in Austria host music festivals, such as Snowbombing in Mayrhofen. If you’re looking for a low-key setting for your wedding, perhaps avoiding these resorts/dates is the best way to go.
