Mountain Wedding Location Spotlight: Hohe Mut Alm Obergurgl Austria

Today’s post is for couples who are searching for the perfect location for a mountain wedding. I’d like to introduce you to the town of Obergurgl and tell you a few reasons why an Obergurgl wedding might be exactly what you’re looking for.

The village of Obergurgl is located in the Öztal valley in the province of Tyrol in Austria. One and a half hours from the city of Innsbruck, Obergurgl is nestled in a stunning glacial valley and is proud to be the highest parish in Austria, sitting at 1907 meters above sea level.

Obergurgl is a destination popular in winter for its great snow conditions and in summer for its amazing hiking. The village itself has stayed true to the rustic alpine charm that so many bigger tourist resorts have lost.

You’ll be spoiled for choice when looking for somewhere to stay, with fabulous hotels such as the Gurglhof and the Mühle Resort which offer luxurious rooms and fabulous spa facilities.

An Obergurgl Wedding

Obergurgl offers something this is still quite hard to find if you’re looking to have a mountain wedding in Austria. And that is the possibility to have a legally binding civil ceremony in a location that is up on the mountain.

The beautiful Hohe Mut Alm is a traditional alpine mountain restaurant; lots of rustic wooden details but with a touch of modern flair. And here it is possible to hold not only a civil wedding ceremony but also your wedding reception.

Getting to the Hohe Mut Alm couldn’t be easier either. There’s a cable car that brings you up from the village to right outside the restaurant, so it’s perfect for guests of all ages, regardless of whether they are skiers or hikers. They even have a special wedding gondel for the bride and groom. And the fact that it sits on a ski run does mean that you could make your grand exit on skis if you wanted to!

Due to the high altitude of Obergurgl, the Hohe Mut Alm is lucky to have a long winter season, but it also opens for a few months in the summer too, when the whole valley turns magnificent shades of green.
