Should We Hire A Wedding Planner For Our Destination Wedding?

One of the most common questions that I see being asked in Facebook groups for couples planning their destination weddings is “Do we really need a wedding planner?” The most common reason for people not to hire a wedding planner is simply a budgeting issue, and while not hiring a wedding planner might save you a few $$ on your wedding budget, hiring one could end up being the best decision you make during your wedding planning.
Whilst it is completely possible to organise a destination wedding without the assistance of a wedding planner, there is no denying that a wedding planner can help make the whole process a lot smoother and less stressful.
So I thought I’d give you 5 reasons why hiring a wedding planner is something you should consider:

Know The Legal Requirements & Can Help With Paperwork

In some countries, being able to get legally married can be an administrative nightmare. You’ll be required to have numerous documents, some of which may require translating or Apostile stamps for example. Letting a wedding planner take care of this for you means that you’ll be able to arrive at your destination safe in the knowledge that you will be allowed to get legally married.

They Know The Best People

Some suppliers are easy to find online just by doing a Google search. But sometimes you can get to page 10 of Google and still not find what you’re looking for. Wedding planners usually have a little black book full of vendors that they’ve worked with before and trust. And they may even get preferential rates too.

They Can Chase Up Suppliers So You Don’t Have To

Planning a wedding from overseas can be really challenging, and when people don’t respond to your emails, it can be downright frustrating. When you hire a wedding planner, they’ll make it their job to chase up all of the suppliers so that you don’t have to.

Negotiating Language Barriers

We’ve probably all learned the hard way that Google Translate can’t be trusted, or heard hilarious stories from people who’ve mispronounced foreign words to accidentally say something rather rude. Sometimes it’s just really hard to explain yourself when you’re communicating with someone who doesn’t speak the same native language as you, and things can get lost in translation, no matter how many Pinterest boards you show them. Wedding planners are experts at negotiating this language barrier. Many destination wedding planners are expats or have a great amount of experience working internationally, and can help you create your dream wedding just as you imagine it.

On The Day Coordination & Mad Problem Solving Skills

No matter how big or small your wedding is, you don’t want to be the one having to check the time every 30 minutes to make sure everything is running to schedule. And no matter how well you’ve planned things, sometimes sh*t happens. Wedding planners help coordinate all areas of the wedding on the day so that everything runs smoothy and they are ready to act should anything not quite go to plan. All you need to do is turn up, say I do and have the best day ever!
