Anna & Jon’s winter elopement in Hallstatt was one of the most intimate and romantic celebrations of love and their adventurous spirits. Nothing was going to stop them from saying their vows to each other outside in the snow. Not even a snowstorm!
In winter above the arctic circle, there’s a phenomenon known as polar night, where the sun doesn’t rise above the horizon, bringing almost 24-hours of night. Christina & Dustin chose to brave the arctic weather and elope in the Lofoten Islands in northern Norway during the polar night. Even with only a couple of hours of twilight, these two had the adventure of a lifetime exploring this enchanting place.
Every year in December I sit down to write a post with my highlights from the year. But with elopements right up until the end of December, this year’s review had to wait until now.
Jeremy emailed me a few months before a trip to Europe with his girlfriend Katrina. The main part of their trip was a rail trip through Switzerland. But since discovering Lago di Braies on Instagram, Katrina really wanted to make a detour at the start of their trip to visit this iconic lake in the Dolomites. They looked at their options and decided that they could make it happen. They would start their trip with 2 nights in the Dolomites, and then head to Switzerland for their main adventure. Or at least, that’s what Katrina thought was the plan. What she didn’t know is that Jeremy had something very special planned for their short trip to the Dolomites. He wanted to pull off the most romantic surprise marriage proposal at the lake.
How do you ask out that girl you’ve fancied for a while? You offer her free wakeboard lessons, give her concussion and somewhere along the line, you end up dating. At least that’s how Anna & John’s love story started. Since the very beginning, their lives together have always been focused on adventure and spending time in nature. When it came to planning their wedding, they always knew that they wanted to elope. Their first thoughts went to jetting off to Las Vegas, but after some more thought, they decided they wanted to return to their favourite winter sports resort in the Dolomites in the Fall for an intimate elopement with their closest family.
Maggie & Cass are sheep herders in the beautiful state of Wyoming in the USA. But when it came to planning their wedding, neither of them wanted a big, traditional celebration. They decided instead to plan a trip to Europe and elope during their trip. After settling on Innsbruck as the location for their elopement, they only had one request for their wedding day. They wanted to spend the day exploring the local scenery and see as many animals as they could – especially sheep!
Emma & Martin didn’t tell anyone that they were getting married. Instead, they planned a 3-day hiking and climbing elopement in the Dolomite mountains in Italy, exploring the incredible scenery and saying their vows to one another at sunrise at the top of the mountain.
Molly & Todd flew from New York to the Austrian Alps to celebrate their marriage with an intimate Seefeld wedding on the Seefelderjoch. They travelled with their immediate family AND their gorgeous dog Arlo for their unique mountain ceremony in the middle of the Austrian Alps.
The local cows crashed this Rössl Alm wedding in Gerlos in the Austrian Alps and almost stole the show on Emma & Adam’s wedding day.
The Faroe Islands are being called “The Next Iceland” and for good reason. This little archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean is a nature lovers paradise. The breathtaking scenery is still unspoiled and even in “high season” you can hike without seeing too many other people on the trails. Last month I was in the Faroe Islands for an elopement with a wonderful couple from Ireland and Singapore, and also an adventure session with a gorgeous couple from Russia. So I thought it might be fun to put together a short post with some inspiration for a Faroe Islands Elopement
Have you ever been somewhere that took your breath away. Somewhere you always vowed you’d return to? When Y & J first traveled to the Dolomites for a climbing trip a couple of years ago, they fell in love with the dramatic scenery of the Italian Alps. So when they got engaged, they wanted to return to the place where they’d had one of their most incredible adventures for their intimate wedding in the Dolomites.
Petya & Tihomir traveled all the way from Bulgaria to the Dolomites for their elopement. Their intimate first look at the boathouse at Lago di Braies was just the start of their incredible day of adventure. Afterwards they headed up in to the mountains for their Tre Cime elopement ceremony.
There is only one way to describe Adam & Michelle’s hiking elopement in the Dolomites. EPIC. They hiked for 10 days across the Italian Alps and on the final day of their adventure they eloped. The trip was full of unexpected challenges, stunning scenery and unforgettable moments. Here’s just a small taster of their incredible adventure.
An engagement adventure session in the Italian Dolomites. When Rena & Thomas’ plans had to be changed at the last minute, we came up with this pretty epic plan B with mountain lakes and alpine meadows.
Laurel & Dustin didn’t want a traditional wedding. Their plan was to get married at the courthouse in their home state then take an amazing trip to Europe to celebrate. They decided to take their wedding photos during their trip and decided the stunning Lake Braies in the Dolomites would be the perfect spot. Keeping the un-traditional vibes, Laurel opted to wear a stunning gold wedding gown, which added a touch of glamour to their wild and rustic location in the Italian Alps.
