I’m so lucky to have some wonderful friends that I’ve met since starting my journey in to wedding photography. And one of these amazing people is Emma from Story of Your Day. I met Emma via an online community for female creative entrepreneurs and we got on like a house on fire when she came to Austria to film by wonderful “About Me” branding film. Like me, Emma is a British expat who has relocated to the Alps. Emma & her family live in the beautiful Swiss ski resort of Wengen, so we went to visit them one weekend last May and explore the Bernese Highlands and the towns of Wengen & Lauterbrunnen.
Weekend Adventures – Exploring Wengen & Lauterbrunnen
I’ve come across many pictures of the famous Staubbach Waterfall in Lauterbrunnen, so when I found out that not only were we going right past it on our way to Wengen, but that it was visible from Emma’s chalet, I was pretty blown away. But it wasn’t just the waterfall that I loved about visiting the Bernese Highlands.
The town of Wengen hangs above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. It’s a popular winter ski resort in the Bernese Highlands, and since it’s a car-free town, it is only accessible by train, so even getting there is an adventure in itself.
Emma & her husband James took the weekend off and showed us around their new home town of Wengen. We hiked to a number of stunning locations that looked out across the valley towards Lauterbrunnen, and we also hiked up along parts of the famous Lauberhorn downhill ski race up to Kleine Scheidegg to get an up-close view of the iconic Eiger and Jungfrau mountain peaks.
